I believe the gift of good, positive music is inspired by God. It uplifts and refreshes the soul like cool water revives a parched and thirsty tongue. In a spiritual context, music seems to permeate the atmosphere around us whether in a crowd or by ourselves. It has the ability to bring people together and transform one’s mood or attitude. Spiritual music has a soothing effect on the soul. My wife Sandra and I have found this particularly evident during the last few years while touring around New Zealand performing fundraising concerts for churches and other Christian organisations. On many occasions we have had people approach us after a concert telling us just how much the music has touched their hearts. Often these people are non-Christians and just “cannot describe” how the music has touched them. We still receive cards and letters from people all around the country who have purchased a CD telling us how much they are enjoying the music and how it still has the ability to minister to them. We have met countless people who also love the music of Southern Star nationwide radio and how it has helped them through sleepless nights and other difficult times. Christian songs of praise and worship have the unique ability to take people into a close and intimate experience of the presence of God. As scripture declares “God inhabits the praises of His people”. Spiritual music is a powerful dimension of the Christian walk and, in my opinion, absolutely essential.
