Interview:
Albert Ayler said “Music is the healing force of the universe”. While in Japan, Coltrane said he wanted to be a saint. Both statements by these two highly respected contemporary Jazz creators reflect the deep spiritual connection that exists between music and the soul. The universe is an immense symphony. Scientists can hear the cosmic music of radio waves via their sophisticated instruments. The human body, the microcosm, being in the exact image of the universe, the macrocosm, music is one of the many expressions of the unfathomable, of the Divine spirit that is within each human being.
It is through music that the soul can express itself best in the material world, much better than words, because music is a true universal language. Whether composed or improvised, music breathes, and brings out the inner invisible creative energy that makes us vibrate. What is important is not the sounds that we hear in music, but the vibrations of the musician’s or the composer’s soul that penetrate our most inner core and makes a connection. Once we become conscious of this, music that breathes takes you right into cosmic harmony, and makes you understand the concept of God and the reason to live.
“The universe is an immense symphony… Music that breathes takes you right into cosmic harmony, and makes you understand the concept of God.”
