Interview:
First, a definition of terms: “Spiritual” from Webster’s online: 1: of, relating to, consisting of, or affecting the spirit 2a: of or relating to sacred matters 5a: of or relating to supernatural beings or phenomena
“Spiritual” from Compact Oxford online: relating to or affecting the human spirit as opposed to material or physical things.
“Significance” from Webster’s online: 1a: something that is conveyed as a meaning often obscurely or indirectly 1b: the quality of conveying or implying
“Significance” from Compact Oxford online: 1: the unstated meaning to be found in words or events
Secondly, a consideration:
Regarding music, I think it would follow along the line of the quote about beauty, i.e. the significance would lie in the ear of the beholder.
For myself, I am actually more interested in the affective qualities of sound coexistant in the phenomenologies of the elemental and biological realms, than in anything to do with the first-world concept of music. For this is at the basis of any-world’s “music” to effect the listener, and the affect of which can be interpreted by the listener as being on their emotional, intellectual, physical, or spiritual state.
Thirdly, a note: I think at this point in time it’s a bit facile to say: “music” uplifts or transcends.
“Regarding music… the significance would lie in the ear of the beholder.”
