Interview:
I’ll be honest with you, music never started out for me as a spiritual thing. It was just a Rock and Roll thing. As a young child I grew up on Guns N’ Roses, Venom, Slayer, Metallica, Crue, and Skid Row. At the age of fifteen I went to my first Metal show and witnessed Morbid Angel playing live with a legendary Aussie band, Armoured Angel. A show that completely blew my mind. The power of this show made me look closer at the spiritual and darker forces that made both these bands what they were. I had already been exposed to, and become a fan of, the darker stuff like Deicide, Nocturnus, Morbid Angel, as well as having just gained an interest in things like the Satanic Bible and the Necronomicon. This one show was the catalyst to bring it all together. After this show I played a lot harder, practiced a lot harder, and became a lot better. Partly due to being blown away by the music of that show, and partly because I wanted the power that these guys wielded when they took the stage, and partly because I wanted to unleash my own creative spirit as these guys had done that night. This was a show that everyone who saw remembers with awe.
I then paid close attention to the things that artists like Glen Benton of Deicide, and especially Trey Azagthoth of Morbid Angel, said about their music and creative forces. After experimenting with music and the Necronomicon, I honestly think I’ve been able to channel forces into the music I have created. These forces may have different names but they have allowed my creative and intuitive spirit to manifest itself in my music, and eventually almost everything I do. Once you have opened up to these forces, they start to guide you and you realise your full potential, this is true creativity. First music then the rest of your life. As someone who follows Satanic principles, I feel I am a stronger person for it. However, it is the living breathing spirit of the ancient ones that drives my creative forces and insight into the dark side. What lies beyond this mortal coil. I guess I have found a happy combination of these two forces. Rock and Roll is to me my chance at immortality. I have cheated death many times in my life already, but eventually my time will come. I have a son through whom I hope my essence will live through. Even long after I have decomposed I’ll know that my music and lyrics have been spread around the world, though in a very underground capacity. They will live on in the discs they have been printed on and whatever digital media formats they find themselves on in the future. Hopefully within the memories, and consciousness of those who have seen us play, and opened their ears and their hearts to what we have to say. Music and the spirituality behind it is a way to let what is inside of me out, and hopefully provide my creative spirit with a means to live on forever, that after all is the dream of every man, is it not?
