Interview:

I believe at the heart of music, as well as all forms of art, there is something spiritual. Firstly, our desire to create reflects the fact that we were made in the image of God, the ultimate creator. On some level we all have that desire to create, and that refreshing feeling of accomplishment when we have created something wonderful, even with people who don’t call themselves artists. Secondly, I believe art is communication of the soul. Our art reflects our inner-being, our emotions, and our spirituality. When what we feel, think, and see is captured in art, the artists soul is opened and on display. When people see that, they can relate to those feelings or thoughts, the souls of the audience and the artist connect. As a musician, I can tell you there is nothing better than when this happens during a live performance. It’s what we strive for every time. It is magical when everyone in the room seems to be connected, we all become one, completely open to one another, understanding each others’ pain, happiness, love, longing, and fear. Perhaps it is a little taste of Heaven. Why does someone listen to and love a certain song? The answer is because something about that song stirs up an emotion in them. Whether it is the longing sound of an oboe instrumental, or a massive orchestral swell that fills your entire being, and makes you forget everything else. Or maybe it is that solid, rocking guitar riff that just makes you want to bang your head, or that beat that makes you feel like dancing for joy. Or maybe it is the lyric, maybe what that artist said touched your soul in a way it has never been touched. No matter the reason for liking a certain song, it all comes down to the fact that it communicates with your soul. It echoes in the deepest chambers of your heart. I believe art is God’s gift to us; a window into the spiritual where we can catch glimpses of our true nature. Art brings us all together.
