Interview:
I believe that music can take you out of the daily drudge of life for short or long periods. Is that spiritual? I think maybe so. Some experimental music has lifted me into different trains of thought and at times lifted my spirits by thinking about past times spent with friends and loved ones who I haven’t seen for a long time and in some cases unfortunately will never see again. At least not in this life.
There’s been times when real life experiences of love or loss have prompted me to write music in such a fashion that I was surprised at how quickly it came. Some of that music lay dormant for a long time and some of it has recently surfaced on the new Napalm Death album and when I hear those certain tracks I think of those dark times and how at the time it felt desperate but that music was about channeling negativity into positivity and the music that is there is a testament to how I made it through the dark times and moved. I think music is releasing and takes mental photographs of your personality as you develop throughout life.
