Interview:

As a Christian, I view the word “spiritual” as a connection with God’s heart. In this context, I would like to make an unusual statement coming from a singer- songwriter; I believe that God thinks less of music than we do! You see, it says in the Bible in 1 Corinthians 13:1, “If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal” [NIV]. I believe the same applies to music, music combined with talent will, no doubt, influence emotion, as we have all witnessed the scene where music, carefully orchestrated to capture a mood has caused tears or laughter, but spirituality isn’t just emotion is it?

In a Christian context however, music when conjoined with a genuine expression of love and worship of God can create a platform to experience the heart-beat of the Maker of the universe. Now that’s what brings a smile to God’s face! I have personally encountered God numerous times in this particular setting and I am convinced, beyond doubt, that music used in genuine worship has a critical part to play in our spiritual connection with God.
