Interview:
I have no unassailable idea of what “spiritual significance” is. If the spiritual significance of music is about what “good” music can do or be, as in “what good is that”, and what are the ethics of music; I might not have any answer either. Though I think the opening up of a non-visual regime or domain of experience by ecstatic listening, or ecstatic cognition through listening, is one of the essential things the human being seems to be able to do, and to enjoy doing, and take meaning from doing. We can be ecstatic in our response to music, and we can be reminded of that capacity simply by putting the metaphorical needle on the record.
