Interview:

Many spiritual traditions in the world talk about the universe being created by a sound, vibration, or Word. Quantum physics and string theory support this by theorizing that the basis of all matter is in ten dimensions of tiny vibrating strings. It could be possible to think of the universe as a musical entity, since everything is vibrating; the harmony of the spheres. Apparently the background sound of the universe is a very low B-flat, and DNA is said to emit and receive light and sound waves. Music is a universal language without words by which all beings can communicate and understand each other’s deepest essence. Music is a doorway through which we can go to experience the Divine; a path back to our true nature. Through music we open up ourselves allowing higher vibrations to come through us as vehicles, and this can be expressed through each of us according to our individuality. Sound has healing effects and various rhythms are used by African drummers to treat and tune unbalanced energies (illness). Some of my strongest experiences of spirituality in music have been while playing the music of Bach, and listening to recordings by John Coltrane.
