Interview:
People often seem to split music into different categories, either by genre, by artist, or by the beliefs of the musicians. So the music we often think of as spiritually significant is done by “spiritual” people, and makes us feel “spiritual” too. But in the beginning God created everything, and told us to go and enjoy His world, living creatively and exploring new ideas. He didn’t just tell us to write worship music, He gave us the whole spectrum of music and art to enjoy and express ourselves creatively. Obviously the Fall screwed things up. But as humans, we can express the awesomeness of God’s creation, the tragedy of the Fall of humanity, and our amazing hope of New Life in Christ. For me, significant art and music expresses some of these ideas. Whether Christian or not, music can help me understand the predicament my life was in, and the redemption of my life in Christ. As a musician, both the form and the message of the music must represent this grand story of our faith, and sometimes the simplest of songs can have a profound impact on someone’s life.
“Sometimes the simplest of songs can have a profound impact on someone’s life.”
