Interview:

Music has always been spiritual. If we go back to the early days in the Bible and history, music was a major part of the culture and was mainly used for worship. In our day and culture it is quite different, very diverse and personal. People listen to music for different reasons, and many bands have a spiritual dimension to their music. Music is incredibly powerful in the way it can move, change, and challenge people for good or evil. I don’t believe it has to be a Christian band or individuals to spiritually move people through music. Music is a universal language that can bring people together in a way everyday language cannot. There is also the emotion of music that comes through a certain chord structure or note sung. I believe a lot of it comes down to the heart. I hear a lot of stuff on the radio about the girl at the party, or my red car, and it doesn’t seem to have a spiritual side to it, but music mixed with emotion, passion, purpose, struggles, pain, and searching will always be spiritual in it’s core because of its honesty, and yearning that there has to be something greater! But on the flip side there is also some terrible Christian music too with a lack of creativity, and cliché lyrics that just seem to be going through the motions. It doesn’t move me when I hear it even though it’s Christian. We should be giving the Creator of music our best. I’m still figuring it all out myself!
